Counselling
My practise focuses primarily on providing individual and marital counselling over a broad range of issues.
My approach to counselling is solution focused where the emphasis is on very clear, concise and realistic goal development. Clients are invited to take responsibility for bringing about change to their current situations by identifying their values and the skills and knowledge they have to live according to these values so they can effectively confront whatever problems they face. There is also a very strong emphasis on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that aims to help clients understand their difficulties as an interrelationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Clients will learn simple and effective strategies to help manage and improve their current distress, and they are given tools to protect them in the future.
From our very first interaction, we will work collaboratively on establishing a strong working relationship, identify your goals for treatment, and gain clarity about the ways in which we will work together to reach those goals. We will identify and utilize your strengths and your talents and we will reframe your shortcomings in order bring about change and assist you to achieve your desired goals.
Typically, meetings will occur every two weeks unless you're in crisis during which time meetings will occur weekly. These meetings will become an ongoing conversation that can open up possibilities, invite change, and foster personal growth.
